Australian Banks dominate the ASX 200 with 5 making up the Top 10. Between Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA), National Australia Bank (NAB), Westpac Banking Corporation (WBC), ANZ Group Holdings (ANZ) and Macquarie Group (MQG) having a combined market cap of $446.36bn it is small wonder some get concerned about Australia’s reliance on the financial sector.

The remainder of the other top 10 ASX listed banks have a combined Market Cap of $31.18bn which is less than half of the 5th lowest, Bank, MQG.

Australia has a robust banking system and has not seen the overseas bank collapses both in recent times and in the last Global Financial Crisis (GFC). Australian Banks have historically performed very well with CBA rising to have the second largest market cap in the ASX200 despite its recent downturn in performance.
